Red deer group!

Updated: Mar 22, 2021

Check out this batchelor pad of red deer stags. They are practicing the art of the rut, right in the centre of Nightingale Glade! As you see, the older one is winning hands down, without even putting in much effort.

Behaviour like this helps the youngsters prepare for the real battles that will take place later in their life. If they are lucky (and strong!) they might end up being the leader of groups of up to 70 does (female deer)!

These later battles are very impressive as fully grown males can grow up to 190kg!

Look out for red deer hoof prints (or 'slots') around Castle Wild Camp, they can measure up to 9cm across!
